We live on the east coast of Canada.  My daughter, Candy, was involved in the Trial Net study at the IWK, Halifax, NS since 2007.  During this study we have learned that Candy was high risk for developing diabetes due to family history.  In 2008, the study told us that she has a 90% chance of developing diabetes within 5 years.

February 2012, Candy went to the IWK for her bi-yearly OGTT test and the results were not normal but also not in diabetic range, YET.  June 2012, Candy returned for her OGTT and the results were in the diabetic range.  She was officially diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic.  Life instantly changed that day.  It was important to watch her food intake and check her BG levels.

Because we were able to catch her diabetes early she was not put on insulin right away.  I needed to monitor her BG levels and watch for a change.  For the most part her numbers were normal.  But in October the numbers started jumping around a bunch and were starting to get a bit unpredictable.  November 2012, Candy was officially put on Insulin using insulin pens.  She was prescribed Novorapid for her boluses and Levemir for her Basal insulin.

Candy loves her pony Dutchess.  She rides about 5 days a week and is now jumping jumps up to 2'6".
